Default Is it OK to wear red to a Catholic Funeral?

A good friend of mine's mother just passed away this past Sunday, and tomorrow is her funeral. They are a strong Catholic family, and the service will be held at the Catholic church.

I'm wearing a grey suit with a dark maroon shirt and tie. I have some people telling me you should wear red, and others telling me never to wear red to a funeral. I'm soo confused right now.

Any help would be appreciated.

Wear a white shirt. Make yourself as normal and non-obtrusive as possible.

Im catholic and i've never seen anyone get upset over someone wearing a maroon dress shirt to a funeral. I mean the family will be glad that you are showing up and showing that you care. Now if you showed up in bright red shirt with taz all over the tie im sure that would be different.

yeah it basically says there is a color for different things, the red at the funeral is defience, i dont know, a yellow flower could be happiness, but in the end, their TV shpws that color best. pretty classy commercial in my opinion, well done.

expletive it dude. if people say something about what youre wearing then they're obviously not sentimental about the death of whom ever and care more about bashing your wardrobe rather than mourne for the death of of that person.

Funeral is for the desist, if you think you're friends mother wouldn't have a problem with it, then nobody should.

funerals arent like they used to be (or im told...im only 18)

but people used to get dressed up to go to wakes and such, nowadays people will just stop by after getting out of work..

these things have become less about their formality and more about their meaning

thats my .02 tho

The new trend seems to be white at funerals. Supposedly makes it more positive and more of a celebration of the person's life instead of grieving over the loss of a person.

Me personally I wouldn't have a problem with what you plan to wear if it was the funeral of someone close to me.

All-black is the "traditional" way to do it...

However, like someone mentioned, recently people simply show up after work or some other errand. As long as you wear dark colors (i.e. black, dark gray, or dark brown) you should be ok. Just try to wear as much black as possible to be on the safe side.

idiot? I didn't say I "wanted" to wear red, it was just the outfit I picked out. Watch who you're calling an idiot, you don't know me man.

I have one suit.... it's grey. It goes good with the maroon shirt and tie I have. I wasn't trying to make a fashion statement, just dress nice.

In the end, I think I'm going to take you guys advice and wear a neutral colored shirt and tie... Play it safe.
