Default How to know if TSB/Recall has been performed on used car???

Just like the title asks, is there any way to tell if a recall or TSB has been performed on a used car? Looking at several pricey used vehicles (Volvos, Acuras, etc) that have know issues with known repairs/TSB/recalls and want to ensure fixes have been made before purchase.

There is a site for this, I am trying to remember it...

All you do is put in the VIN and it shows recalls and which one's have been cleared on that VIN.

Damn, I think it's a government website for recalls, Maybe a D.O.T. site? Damn, damn.

Would a dealer have this stuff on their computer? Could I call with the VIN?

In the case of the MDX, there is a transmission issue that causes premature failure. There is a fix, detailed in a recall.

You should be able to but I always wonder if they are lying to me. Click the image to open in full size.

You should be able to go into a dealer with the vin and tell them your situation and the will tell you.

I did this with a talon I got. It still had open recalls on it.

The manufacturer *should* have this in their records, as submitted by the dealerships when the repair was done.

I just went through this on the Turbo Pig. I got a letter from Volvo about a headlight switch recall, turns out two other (old) recalls had not been taken care of on my car by the previous owner, and had never been caught at the other Volvo dealer in town.

In honda/acuras case you can contact American Honda at 1-800-999-1009 with Vin to look for open recalls. Any Acura dealer should be able to help you also.
