If that was the case it would have been attractive throughout modern history; whats attractive is constantly changing.
This. Ever notice the girls who are most attractive today often, if placed back in the 1930s or 1940s, would not be considered attractive? And vice-versa...the ones considered unattractive today would be lusted after back then.
Not all the time...some are just true beauties...but for a lot this is the case.

IMO it is a reflection of the ever-growing acceptance of ethnic cultures in our society, along with the growing populations of these groups, especially Brazilians.
As these populations grow, the wealth scale of members of these groups grow, and hence they become a greater part of mainstream society. Thus, their "attributes" become featured in mainstream advertising, and society shifts to cater to their needs, thus sexualizing/making attractive that which prior would have gone unnoticed and/or possibly even looked down upon.
