Default DJ's: What kind of speaker systems do you use? (house parties and the like)

Currently I just spin in our "home studio" so I play through an Alesis amp and studio monitors. I have a bunch of requests to do house parties and especially next semester when I bring my decks to campus so I need something for that. I'm not looking to drop a lot of cash. What would you recommend?

i have a roland kc-550 keyboard amp that I use with my synth, but it is GREAT for parties. very loud and good bass. I paid $425 (15" woofer and 5" tweeter with 185 watts of power)

EV
Community
Cerwin-Vega
Bose
...

The options are endless.

When I used to do gigs I've used TOA, Community, Cerwin-Vega, home-built, etc.

It depends on the size of venue, indoors/outdoors, number of people, etc.

Using lights, bass bins, stacks, etc. increases the price subtantially for the client, not to mention the "crew" required to transport if it's not a premanent location. (ie. club/bar).

Yea I know the brands, I was just wondering if there was a specific model someone could recommend that fits my needs and is decently priced.

And like I said, this will just be for house parties, no large venues. I wont be needing any lights, bass bins, stacks, etc.

The self-powered Mackie speakers with the stands are pretty good at rocking a basement party.

We don't use anything special at our house parties. Just some 12", 150 watt rms "Community" speakers. I believe they were like $120 apiece. We do suggest you use stands though, as it makes a good difference. Anyways, they have good sound, and we don't use a subwoofer. They have enough for our house, or at least the dance floor. Too much, in fact, according to some neighbors and the City of Virginia Beach Click the image to open in full size.

Here is the setup. One is under the DJ table. The DJs say it would be better if it was up in the air. Still, plently enough to rock the place....

Mackies are nice to rock a house. My friends have 2 Denon CD Decks, and 2 1200's running through a DJM909 & 2 Mackies & it's way louder than we can play legally.

We use a separate amp. I think it was a little over $100. Again, nothing special.

they are the 12" Mackie self powered monitors that Guitar Center sells. I think they only carry the one version of 12's from Mackie.
