Default Convert a salvage title to a clean title?

I found a car on craigslist that looked like a pretty good deal. I called the guy and he said that the car HAD a salvage title, but that the previous owner had it converted to a clean title by taking it to a shop and having the car rebuilt. I'm not sure why the car was salvaged in the first place, but I just wanted to know if this was possible... Any help is appreciated!

Once it has a Salvaged title, you can't convert it to a clean title. They can only rebuild the car to like new status but it will still have a salvaged title.

If it has a clean title now. Why would he even tell you about the salvage title. I do not think you can a clean tile after it was salvaged.

Buying a salvage title car will always remain salvage title. It can be fixed look good but your taking a big risk, because the frame could have bent too, which will cause the car to move left or right or have killer camber on either tires. IMO, i wouldn't buy a SLVG Title Car. Even if It was to be just a Drag Strip car, i'd have to think abou it.

You can get a Salvage Rebuild title if the car has been inspected by an agent of the DMV and deemed roadworthy. That way it is legal for street use. I've heard of someone who has taken a car with Salvage Rebuilt title to another state, register it there, get a clean title in the other state, and then bring it back to their own state, but I'm not really sure if that works.

The whole "Salvage Rebuild" title thing is in VA... I'm not sure about other states. I've done it on a few motorcycles and a truck.

you can do this ............... it would only be on paper and carfax will show it was once salvaged ............. for example my friend bought a 02 cherokee for his daily driver in 03 that was a salvaged title in one of the carolinas for cheap he brought it back to ohio and when it was titled here it was branded a clean title !!!!!!!!!!!

I bought my first civic as a salvage car. Seller told me it was in good shape blah blah blah. Of course I was still a rookie and I believed him. One of the worst mistakes I did in my life. What a headache that car was! Don't fall into the same pit I fell into buddy. A salvage car will always be salvage.

Also a big misconception about a car being salvaged, it dont necessary mean that the car had frame damage or that is was due to a collision, a car is salvaged anytime the cost of repairs exceed the repair threshold (cars value minus the salvage value)

for example, if i owned a car that was worth $500 and someone comes along and keys my whole vehicle, the estimate comes back at $2000 then my vehicle will be totaled, insurance wont pay out $2000 on a vehicle that is only worth $500

vehicles with a salvage title usually take a 30%-50% hit on the vehicles value regardless of how clean it is

but defiantly do your research on any car you buy

You can't get a clean title but I think you can get a rebuilt title in some states

Thanks for all of your help. I wound up passing on this deal; The car looked really clean, but I didn't want to take a risk like that... I got a different car. Honda-Tech = Click the image to open in full size. .
