Default Can you tell if my Ficus is dead?

Im pretty sure it is.. I just want second opinions. The cat likes to jump into it and claw the crap out of it.

edit: sorry I just realized my boyfriend broke my camera... so it's a crappy cell phone pic

Wow, if you can't take care of a plant how on earth do you take care of a dog? Let alone a boyfriend?

Technically the plant is his... I kind of forget it's there because it's tucked away in a corner...

and I don't have a dog, I have a cat.. and she is always around so I know to take care of her

I think I will bring it outside and put it on the deck in a sunny spot and maybe it'll get better?

I'm going to bet it's not. Start with some water. It's hard to kill a Ficus. I' don't know where "dirty south" is, but I bet it's cold (winter) and Ficus will loose all it's leaves, like what you are seeing. That's what a Ficus tree does. I would also bet you turned on the heater too.

With the combo, don't let the appearance fool you.

A few things. IMO, that pot is too small. Get a bigger one (at least 2X), with some fresh potting soil. If you want to go cheap, go get some good dirt outside, and add some of the dead leaves in there. Soak that puppy good with water and let the water drain out. Do this at least once a week, and I would bet your Ficus well be back in the spring or summer.

Cliff: Your tree is NOT dead. It's not too late.

Ok

We're in NC

I moved in front of the big windows in our living room and opened up the curtains, put water in the bottom of the pot and some in the top.

We turn the heat down to 65ish when we go to bed and its around 68-70 while we are home.

Heater is the worst for plants because it drys them out. But that's how it goes in our modern world.

Looks dead. Our cat will kill our plants too, so they have to be put where she can't get to them.

That thing looks pretty dead. I'd just get another one, they are pretty cheap plants.

I say it's not dead.

Spring is right around the corner. It'll get it's leaves back if you keep watering it & put it in sun.

I'm bored, so I'll type more.

A cat could not kill a Ficus. Even dinosaurs could not kill the Ficus. Ficus leaves are meant to be eaten to feed animals of the past and present. So they are meant to come off, so fresh new ones can grow.

The only way I see a cat could kill a Ficus tree is with cat pee.

She doesn't quite eat it as much as she leaps onto it, climbs it, and breaks off branches. The bark is all scratched off on most of the bigger branches...

Put cayenne pepper on the plant. Cat will mess with it only one time.
