good luck with that one, your gonna be jumping through loops if you didnt get the title to the car during the transaction. getting a title reissued can be a pain in the ***, especially if your not a dealership that rebuilds vehicles, never buy a car without a title unless your just buying it to part it out and make money. dmv is your worst enemy.

Wait so you bought a car without a title or you want to buy a car without a title? If the owner lost the title then he should at least get a bill of sale or duplicate title from the dmv.

yes it all depends on what state your in for example in ohio and a few other states it is basically impossible. However, states like michigan and especially georgia are very easy. If you don't live near michigan believe it or not by making up a fake address or using a friend or relatives in Georgia you can do it through the mail. Then you will have a car titled in georgia and it is as simple as transferring the title to your state. I have never done it but i personnelly know people who have and they said it worked fine for them. It will cost you however much you place on the value of the car in taxes, plus some processing fees. If you want more info go to Georgias dmv website you can get the forms from there.

Disclaimer: This is not really 100% legal so I don't want to hear it from you guys who are gonna come on here and tell me that. I already know and i don't care, but if you run out of options it is a good last ditch effort.

To the op you should get in the habit of making the previousa owner get the title for you it is way to much work. If they don't have a title make them drop at least 200 off the price because it can be a huge inconvinience as you will soon find out.

usually you have to get the previous owner to go back to the dmv and replace a lost title, but for whatever reason they can't such as bought the car without the title and then turned around and flipped it most of them do not go through the hassle of re-titling the car meaning the seller's name on the title is who he bought the car from. I know technically this is illegal but a lot of people do it, and although there isn't really anything wrong with that I'd be careful about buying a vehicle with some other person listed as the seller than the one you're dealing with.

anyways most states you can apply for a new title but it's a long and grueling process. There are a few titling companies that charge a lot of money but they do all the legwork, go back and research the past history, previous owners, etc... I never had to do any of this so cannot vouch for if they actually work or not.

alot will depend on what state you live in...i am in illinois and i bought my del sol with no title as well....i didnt know what to do, i tried hard to get in contact with previous owner but i was unable to track him down...what i ended up doing...which probly isnt legal, but it worked...i applied for a lost title in the previous owners name and forwarded it my address...when it arrived (only costed $80), i then signed the title over to my name and registered it in my name with the duplicate title.

i never expected it to work, but it did.

Big mistake, unless its race car or something not on streets. U will be dealing with BS for the rest of the time u own this vehicle. It really depends on state u live n, it also helps to know some one at a factoring or title place.

Seems like allot of people don't know what hell they are talking about. lol

It's not hard to get a title. You just go down to the DPS office and get a Bonded Title for the vehicle. A bonded title is for people who have purchased an auto from a owner who cant be reached anymore. Basically you are getting a title that is a probation title for a year. If nobody says it's stolen in a year your title becomes unbound and will be in your name then.
I bought a motorcycle once and could not get ahold of the origional owners to get the title. The dude i bought it from never transferred into his name so he could not legaly sell it. I got a bonded title and all was good and in my name.
It cost the same as a regular title transfer if i remember.
Go down to the DPS and ask.

this was an option for me, but around where i am it was hard to find an insurance company to agree to bond the vehicle. along with that you have to get the vehicle appraised to know how much the bond is going to be...sending the lost title request in with the prev owners name was much easier.

I have heard that texas is one of the harder states to get a new title in so you probly don't want to try and do it at your local dmv. But give me a few hours and i will find the form for michigan. The form for doing it is like impossible to find and if you ask for it they will tell you there is no such thing, but there is and i know because i have used this method in michigan before. All you have to do is send you uncle the form that i will give with the vin and stuff then he has to go to the title office. It takes like ten minutes for them to make sure it has a clear title and they will print up a new title in your uncles name. Then have your uncle sign off on it and send it to you and you will be good to go. Don't listen to these people telling you your screwed and stuff there are ways to get around it i know because i have done it multiple times. But if at all possible in the future never buy a titled vehicle without the title it is by no means worth it.

This is NOT A BIG DEAL!!!

As long as you do the searching for the title or prove that you have tried keeping all records of what you have done keeping track of phone calls dates and everything else you have done. You can go to your courthouse and get issued a title from the court. This will cost 120$ it is called a alphadavid. Call your local rep to see what to do they will help you.

Titles are to be earned and not individually derived.

thats how you do it,

I got a bike that had not been registered sense 1998 and im registering it in AZ from CA
After 6 years there is no longer any record, i guess they delete it or what ever.
I had mail a form to the CA DMV asking for records of the bike (showing if there was or not) in my case of course there was none. I gave the record to the AZ DMV and filled out random paperwork. Called insurance company's to get a bond, (keep looking you can find one). mine was 90 bucks. The problem is if the guy you got it from finds the title he can claim it and pay 90 bucks to get it back. (after court stuff )

I don't see how people end up buying a car without a title. I see threads like this pretty regularly here on HT. I should start selling cars like this, without titles it seems pretty ****ing easy to do. I'm sorry OP, but you're a dumbass.
