it's slightly different if you were laid off it was probably because of the company if you were terminated it was because of something you did.

Yes. I would explain it in the "reason(s) for leaving" section or write "Terminated/Laid Off".

Either way you look at it your position in the company had been terminated.

laid off = they downsized or didn't need you anymore

fired = they thought you were a loser and escorted you out the door

Getting fired in my state means you just won a paid vacation. Unemployment insurance FTW

Try to type a coherent and grammatically friendly statement before calling people idiots.

Not always. I'm on my third temp contract where I work and HR sees me as being "terminated" two times already. I guess my situation could be different, but I think "terminated" is pretty much a generic term used by Human Resources for "fired", but doesn't have any necessarily negative connotation to it..

Laid off means severance package,

terminated means don't let the door hit you in the ***.

I disagree there.

My friend was laid off because there was no work. He didn't get dick from them.

Now ***** starting to pick back up and they want to rehire him, but he's already working for another company, which he's going to work until he catches them up then he'll get laid off from there and he'll go looking for another job.

It's like being fired with benifits. Plus you can get unemployment and it doesn't look bad for you when you get your next job.

What do you mean fired with benefits? Don't you still get unemployment even if you get fired?

I'm young & new to the "jobs that pay more than $7.25/hr that could one day be a career" thing.

Well, they let you go and usually (this is the norm; not a rule) pay you one weeks pay for every year that you've been with the company, plus what's left of your vacation and sick time. When your above mentioned time runs out you can then apply for unemployment.

I got you. That applies with being laid off, right? Whereas getting fired you go straight to unemployment?

I don't know about that, I've only been laid off. When I was younger I got fired, but I just went on and got another shitty job.

Being laid off is DEFINATELY different than being terminated.

Laid off, like already said, means you did a decent job, but just don't need ya' anymore.

Terminated means you fucked up, and they had to get rid of you before you did it again.
