Default Anyone running 225/40-16 tires for 16x8 wheels?

I'm looking to get a set of wheels that are 16x8 +15 offset for an integra. I currently have 16x7 +40 offset with 215/40-16 tires. My car is lowered about an inch all around. Question is does anyone have this setup with 225/40-16 tires? rubbing issues? problems?

You will definitly rub with 225s. People rub even with 205s stretched onto them. What you looking to get? Sportmax 501s?

Those are the wrong sizes. With 16" wheels on an Integra, you should be getting either 205/45-16 tires or 215/45-16 tires. I recommend 16x7 or 16x7.5 rather than 16x8, because either of these sizes can be used with 16x7 or 16x7.5, and there are a lot more choices of good tires available in 205/45-16 than in 215/45-16. You should not use 205/45-16 tires with 16x8 wheels, as they are too wide for that size.

And remember, what really matters in performance is the make/model of tire, which is much more important than the treadwidth. For example, the Bridgestone Potenza RE-01R in 205/45-16 will give you better grip than any tire in 215/45-16 (although the Falken Azenis RT-615 in 215/45-16 is pretty close). So if you are looking for grip, concentrate on buying better, stickier tires, not wider tires.

P.S. I doubt that anyone has a setup with 225/40-16 tires. Total number of tires sold by the Tire Rack in that size: ZERO. And the only tire Discount Tire Direct carries in that size is the super-crappy Falken Ziex ZE-512.

P.P.S. For performance, buy better tires, not wider tires.

well the manufacture only makes 8in width wheel(xxr/sportmax). I understand the point you bring across with proper size and a good performance tire. I guess I didn't list the reason behind me choosing a wide tire.

I want a low sidewall for looks and excellent lip protection and possibly add a greater contact patch. I drove on azenis for 5 yrs from va to fl and back for college and daily driving. Picking up nails each year didn't hit hard until two months ago when i realized i buy a new set or two each year. Tire performance was great but practical? not at all. So I'm not at all worried about performance on the street. The ziex ze-512 and toyo t1-r make them in that size, but the ziex's are what i had in mind.

Then get 215/45-16 tires.

Get the right size tire. That's 215/45-16. It will look and protect your lip just fine. Don't get the wrong size tire.

The size of the tire's contact patch has nothing to do with the size of the tire. It depends only on the weight of the car and the pressure in the tires. A 2640-pound Integra with all the tires inflated to 33 pounds per square inch is going to have contact patches that total 80 square inches, and that's going to be exactly the same regardless of whether you're using 195/55-15 tires or wide 225/40-16 tires.

Then you can get a longer-lasting tire. Just get one in the proper size, which is 215/45-16. You can get the Dunlop Direzza DZ101 in that size, and it will last you about 2.5-3.0 times as many miles as the Azenis. And it will give you much better grip than those crappy Ziex all-seasons.
