Default 98 Civic with Fit wheels: Rears rubbing on the inside!

The car is a 98 civic dx, with stock drums in rear, its lowerd, does not have camber kits.

The problem is it looks and sounds like the rear are rubbing the UCA on both sides. There is also shavings from the wheel on the trailing arm. They both have clip on weights that do hit. but that really isnt hard to fix

I felt the inner lip of the wheel, and it does feel ruff like it has been rubbing.

There is no suspension damage, I have had the car for 3 years and have never had any issues like this.

The wheels are Honda fit, 15x6 and the offset is 55.

How do I fix this issue? Do i need spacers or a camber kit?

I really need help fixing this, any and help is needed is appreciated! I can get pics if you guys want!

Thanks!

What are the offset of fit wheels? And how wide are they? Ive got 16x7 with a 40 offset wheels and im lowered probably 2.5 inches with no camber kit. I did do the washer trick though, http://www.team-integra.net/sections...?ArticleID=744

Id go out there with a paint brush and paint the inner lips of the wheel and then go drive and see where the paint is being scraped off. Or, measure from level ground to the center of your wheel, Then put your rear on jackstands and jack up your rear suspension VIA lower control arm to that same measurement and spin your wheel in the air.

15x6 offset is 55. With 195-55-15 tires.

I jacked the car up and went under neith it, I can see and hear where it is rubbing. Also sounds like the tire is slighty rubbing the trailing arm.

I know about the washer trick, bit I am just not positve it will help, however I will give it a shot, if you think it will help.

Holy ******** 55 offset with a 55 series balloon tire. I would try the washer trick first to correct some of the camber, If that doesn work id go for spacers. Or trade someone for Si's or GSR blades. Not a fan of the fit wheels myself. 55 series tire is tall as F*ck lol

Yea, that is what i was thinking too.

I just got the fit wheels today, i perfer them over SI's or blades. Far to many people have them...

But at the same time, alot of people have fit wheels, and I have never heard of them having any issuess like this.

I used to have 185-65-14, those are ballon tires lol

Not really no. Puts all the stress directly on the studs as opposed to the hub. I could see studs snapping while taking sharp corners. Just wait and get some wheel spacers.

Well i pulled the weights they clear while they car is jacked up, however the tires still lightly rub the trailing arm.

I am going go jack it up by the lca and see if it still rubs. Im fingers are crossed that it wont.

If i get spacers wont I need extended studs?

No because the spacers dont move the wheel out very far

Mock it up with washers to see how much you need for it not to rub, then measure the washers with a caliper and see what size spacers youll need.

Thanks, the wheels still rub while jacked up. I went to baxters and got some spacers and they dont fit. They are to large.

I am stuck until the morning and likely for a couple days. Shucks, and autozone were like wft is a spacer!

I am going to go back tomorow morning and see what they can get and when. he said they dont go by 4x100, they only stock ones in inches.

I am so mad I am almost ready to say **** it, and sell the fit wheels.

Gets my vote

having to spacer a "stock" wheel is...I can't find a word for it but obscene is a start.

Not a big deal. Just buy some 5mm spacer or whatever from somewhere. This should allow you to still use the same studs. Or you can get the spacer with studs pressed in. I have some from Ichiba and they have been fine.

Im going to go look for spacers in a bit. I still need to find a place that carries them.... this is proving to be the hard part.....

Thanks for all the replys, I never thought I would need a spacer, or that they would be so sunk in.

I likely will be going 15-25mm spacers in the near future. I hate the "hella sunk" thing.

Make sure you have at least 6.0-7.0 full turns on the lug nuts. If you don't, then you definitely need extended lugs.

With 15-25 mm spacers, you will definitely need extended lugs. With thinner spacers, you may or may not.

If you don't have at least 6 full turns on the lug nuts, they're wrong.

They worked, and I got enough turns on them so no problems there.
The 1/8 was perfect got the tire just where I wanted them.

I am on my way to get a set for the front as well.

Thanks guys!!!!

The lug nuts? 70 ft-lbs should be fine for nearly all OEM AL wheels. With the spacer in there, I would be tempted to go a little higher, but I'm not sure if that is necessarily the correct thing to do.

80 ft-lbs is the spec for most Honda/Acura vehicles, and that's what I recommend.
