Default Cracks in manifold

While working on the car, just found a couple cracks in the welds on my manifold. One picture shows a crack from the top, the other is from the bottom. I am not sure how bad the cracks are but I guess I can assume they will get worse. This manifold is about 3-4 years old.

Questions: Should I be worried about these getting worse? Is it safe to reweld them, or am I looking at needing a new manifold?

You can open the crack with a grinder....and than reweld it....but it appears that it was welded without a proper bevel and probably without back purging!

So......other cracks can appear in time!

as RO said, use a grinder and open the crack enough to get deeper into the metal, but not all the way through...might want to do it the entire way around the pipe as well, or even the rest of the welds for better piece of mind

Also drill a hole at each end of the crack that will stop it from spreading and do as , I quoted above but most likely you will find more cracking on this manifold.

its crazy how most people dont know about drilling at each end of the crack. Good luck with the manifold!!!

Bevel the old weld. Drill holes at each cracks end.
While purging helps, I have made more manifolds than most of you all every could imagine and I never had one crack. So tired of hearing people spew. Its all in proper prep and weld

It's all about proper welding and most of all proper welding preparation.

Because alot of manifold builders are not doing it correctly........no bevel......just butt welds with nice welds....and of course no penetration!

thanks for the help everyone. I am no welder, so it's something I would have done. Basically your suggestions are how i can fix the cracks which is great, but I don't want this to keep happening and keep having to pull it out. Do you recommend having a new one made, properly? i'd rather spend the money to not have to deal with it again. Any recommendations for someone that can jig it up and fab a new one properly?
