Grinding metal f*'ed up my windshield
I'm welding a roll cage in my eg and when I was grinding alot of sparks hit my windshield and left black spots that won't come off. They are not deep or anything and I was wondering if there is any way to polish them off?

Go to an autoglass shop and ask if they will sell you some polishing power... it takes out blems in the surface and embedded metal scrapes or similar. It looks like a fine clay colored powder.

there is a couple different grits.... I've used an orbital sander to aid in the work.... worked pretty well. In my case it was for getting out embedded aluminum scuffs from the edges of sanding blocks. It did take out some of the pitting from day to day driving too.

Damn, live and learn. I guess this is why I see everybody take out there windows when doing a major project like this (14 point cage). The method of do it all at once is totally the way to go, what I did is engine/paint/rollcage and it would have been nice to do it all at once on a rotissere.

350 for new glass is a rip off...I work at a glass shop and the glass is only like 70 bucks... then a top moulding is about 12 and the labour 2 hours or so.... it should be around 200 for a cash sale.
Oh and good luck getting grinding pits out, they actually deposit some of the metal you are grinding in the glass...and not only will they stay there they will rust over time.

3m makes a paper for this. We use it all the time and get cars from previous shops who didn't take this percaution.

I did the same thing to my old window and nothing took it out. I ended up getting it fixed for free through my insurance company due a small crack that developed after hitting road debris.
