Re: (ccfab)
When i was talking about cooling i didnt mean the temp of the water . That is irrelevant. I was talking about the internal temperature of the combustion chamber in regards to detonation. That will not show on your gauge. Epoxy is an insulator. But i dont really think that is going to be a problem either. It was just a concern and something i wondered about. I posted in an earlier post that i thought of doing this myself years ago with filler but gave up on the idea because of the what ifs. Im glad somebody decided to do it and write it up. Just please be impartial and let us know how it goes. Dont let pride in your project cloud your vision. If you do have problems let us know if you dont let us know also. Im sure that is your intention anyway. If this works well and has a function then more people need to understand it not just jump on the bandwagon. Information is our friend. And this thread has been definetly interesting. Thanks man

Re: (ccfab)
so your not breaking it in with any boost? i was going to break mine in with only 3 psi because i can't really convert it "back " to stock without a lot of exhaust woes....maybe ill just run the 3psi, or take off some of the charge piping.

Re: (ccfab)
wait, so what made you think this could withstand the temperature. I think when they say 120 degrees wet, they mean when the hardened epoxy is wet. Any indication that its breaking down?

Re: (ccfab)
oh wow, a whole 120 miles. I know theres the guy on HMT who's done like 3000 or whatever, but has anyone taken their head off after running it for a bunch of miles to look at the condition of the epoxy?
Has anyone noticed coolant with any kind of ltitle pieces of debris floating around in it?
i'm still not totally convinced that this stuff is safe... the fact sheet says the working temperature is 60-90 or something.
Maybe i'll stick with the moroso stuff.

I don't think it's even worth trying to explain to people that either didn't read or read it wrong.....that 55-90 degrees is for when you're mixing the **** and letting it dry.
And that Moroso block filler, http://www.moroso.com/catalog/...22008 they says it's for cast iron and people still use it without problems in aluminum blocks. It'a grout, which makes it chemically more like cement than the epoxy. I don't know if that's good or bad, but it is a different type of chemical. They say as a reason to use their product instead of an epxoy is because an epoxy "costs 5 to 10 times more" when both products actually cost the same (~$50).
There's a hell of a lot less information available about the Moroso filler than this epxoy and no one is as skeptical about that. There's also "Hard Block" which is pretty much the same as the Moroso stuff. The big difference is that Moroso markets for cars, Devcon doesn't, but that doesn't mean it wont work.
Someone has to try it, let him and the rest of us do that and if we screw up our blocks then you can come and say "I told you so" but until then all we have are people's opinions.

Re: (PolyPill)
you couldnt use the block filler in a street car . Its not good to drill it and its best to fill the jacket all the way up. Really for a trailer queen only. Would you guys really tell us if there was problems , I mean i see a lot of defensiveness on here already. I would hope you would so others wouldnt find out the hard way. Either way i might be trying this without the salt. I think ill try parrafin wax the salt is not recommended by devcon. I dont know what it does but they do mention not using it around salt. Parrafin lays down smoother also. Just dont drip it down the walls you would have to us a funnel and pour slowely. Then just warm the block up after the epoxy has cured.

Re: (vtecmissle)
i had this thing in stop and go traffic all morning, no issues whatsoever. my coolant is stil clean as hell, no particles ect.
so far so good.
also who gives a rats *** about salt, when you get it machined it gets hot tanked anyways if the devcon will withstand the hot tank chemicals it sure as hell with withstand the 180 degree collant./
woot. going to pick up my gt35r now, later bitches

Re: (ccfab)
dont get me wrong, i'm going to fill my block, i just have to figure out whats worth trusting. I sure as heck dont wanna have to pull the motor and rebuild another one because i believed someone who hadnt fully tested it, that it was the right filler to use.
Beau used moroso in his car for 2 years.. i trust that.

i take mine off every 1/4 mile, and the 600 hp turbo nitrous setup i have doesnt hurt the epoxy at all
like the box said "designed for jdm use"
for all the doubters, and ccfab, not to jack your thread, cause its a good one
this technique has been done for years and years and years and proven over and over in full drag muscle cars. if you think its not gonna work, and you think that you know something, then you havent seen ish, it works fine, cools fine, even on the street. and ccfab drilled his epoxy too, i run mine closed, and its still fine
so haters, laters

Re: (gold EF)
dude, i know block filling has been used, i'm already in the process of preparing for it myself, been planning on doing it for about a year now. Do you use devcon epoxy or something else?
