Viscous 14 bolt LSD B series Hydro Ball Bearing Conversion
Hello Honda-Tech
We often have customers that purchase the OEM 14 bolt viscous LSD and misplace the OEM spacers so I wanted to share a bit of info for converting viscous LSD tapered roller bearings to ball bearings.
Viscous 14 bolt LSD B series Hydro Ball Bearing Conversion:
When installing a viscous LSD with OEM Tapered bearings the original spacer washers must be reused with the LSD. If spacers are missing a 2.0mm washer shim on the bell case side (#9) and 1.75mm washer shim/shims (#10/12) on the top case should be installed and then preload checked according to the factory service manual. Please note that if a viscous LSD is installed in a different housing, the oiling fins will need to be shaved to make enough clearance for the LSD to fit. To convert to ball bearings install 2X 6208 B16/LS ball bearings (OEM# 91005-PC9-008) with 1.3mm shim #41444-PL3-B00 on the bell case side (#9) and 1.0mm shim # 41441-PL3-B00 on the main case side (#11). Start with this as it will work 90% of the time but you will still need to check the clearance. The service manual calls for 0 - 0.1mm between the bearing and case with the cases closed on the diff. Basically you want to take all the slack up but not put pressure on the bearings. With only the differential and shim installed (no shafts) bolt the cases together and you should be able to spin the diff with your fingers but it should not move back and forth in the case.
41441-PL3-B00 / SHIM A (80MM) (1.0)
41450-PL3-B00 / SHIM K (80MM) (1.05)
41442-PL3-B00 / SHIM B (80MM) (1.1)
41451-PL3-B00 / SHIM L (80MM) (1.15)
41443-PL3-B00 / SHIM C (80MM) (1.2)

41444-PL3-B00 / SHIM D (80MM) (1.3)

It would be a better option to change the LSD and ring gear to the helical 10 bolt type.
