any tips? i always have the worst luck with splines aligning or whole tranny itself aligning. do you guys have any tricks or tips on how to make this easier? thanks.

Pick it up and align it with the 2 dowel pins than push it on there and put a screw driver in one of the holes and bolt it up to the block. Just make sure to have that back mount in while ur doin this cause it a pain in the As* to put in after

back mount has to me loose or you'll never get it aligned.

I usually just wheel it under the car and then pick it up, with someone underneath pushing up on it, line the splines up like that and stick a bolt in

i guess taking off the intermediate shaft eliminates some hassles.

another tip:

if you plan on reusing the old intermediate shaft seal, add a small amount of honda bond to the intermediate shaft seal. it's the seal on the transmission that faces the intermediate shaft.

I myself find it easier when I have something like a milk crate underneath. I usually set the transmission on the ground in the bay, with the crate beside it. Then I'll pick up the transmission and move the crate with my foot and set it on, then go from there. If you need to do it less than five times, this works.

You can tell that Bone has done the job many o' times because he doesn't screw around with lifting the trans with his arms.

HAHHA i used to get so mad when I had to do this by myself. I remember onetime getting pissed off and just throwing stuff around into my backyard. This proved that working in the dirt was advantageous. Throwing tools & car parts into the dirt doesn't do any harm to anything.

No, I meant that i don't use a milk crate or a jack or anything if i don't have to. I can get it on easier and quicker if I, or someone else, is underneath pushing up, with someone on top lining everything up and putting the bolt in

Strangely enough, this is what I've had the most success doing also. It seems to give me the most freedom to jiggle it on.

However, the tranny is odd sized and seems to weigh ~100lbs so if you haven't seen the inside of a gym in a while, have fun with this method.

This is an old thread, but my Civic is even older... Just want to say thanks for all the wisdom!

I struggled with my tranny alignment going back in, to the point of drawing it in by the bolts and smashing the splines on the clutch. Spent days under that, over it, trying to wiggle something that weighs not much less than I do. Finally screwed a board to the base of my floor jack, and the tranny just walked in by itself.
