If you have a lightweight flywheel and you're waiting at a stoplight and the light turns green, is it normal to rev the engine before shifting into first?

What would happen if you did not rev the engine and just tried to shift into first normally?

Why would you need to rev the engine before shifting in to a gear?

Maybe because with a lightweight flywheel revving the engine just before shifting into first makes the takeoff smoother. I'm under the impression that lots of people with lightweight flywheels learn to drive like this, and can't go into first normally like with a stock flywheel.

I've been using lightened flywheels for nearly two decades now and have never had to do this. Once in gear, when driving gently, I do tend to give a little blip before releasing the clutch and kind of catch the engagement on the "falling" revs, if that makes sense. But do whatever lets you drive smoothly.

Never heard of this, you should not have to rev.

7.5lb Fidanza here and I have never revved to put it in gear from a stop. You only need to rev match when downshifting (you don't need to, but it will make for a smoother ride and won't upset the car if you track or autocross it).
