PLEASE HELP garage have done me over, need some advise
apologies for the long *** post but its a long story.. Not sure what else to do now so was wondering if anyone can advise me what to do next
Quick synopsise of what has happend
So I bought a 96 spec JDM integra with around 115k on the clock, the car had a whine when I bought it.
I took it to a little garage and the guy running it told me he also worked for a Honda specialist so I thought it was in safe hands.
Before he had even heard the whine he told me he already new the problem which should of been my first clue this guy was a joker " input shaft bearing he said" dead common always go on these, i said " we'll that's good news I thought the diff was buggerd" he said £500 to take the box off and get all the bearings checked and replaced if needs be, 2 days later I go and get the car ..... It's exactly the same as when I left it, whining like f**k, he says the builders
must have missed something, takes it off again replaces the flywheel bearing, clutch release bearing, and the builders strip the box and check and replace everything bearing wise, get it back 2 days later.... Still the same, whining, he then says "oh it must have been the diff " and if I pay for the part he will get it fitted for free so I haven't really lost anything, so I thought fair play If he told me from the start it was the diff I would of probably said do bearings while your there so stupidly, I paid him, then waited weeks and weeks for him to source a diff, kept just saying he was to busy and u could tell he wasn't bothered about doing it so I went round and said " I'm pi**ed off ... you have messed up on the diagnosis of this fault, or your box builder hasn't done his job and I've paid the price, I shouldn't of paid you as you haven't fixed the problem so who's is giving me my money back??" He says" no one is, its just one of those things mate" after some shouting, he said look I'm not busy this weekend so if you can source an sb9 box I'll use the diff out of that, I source and pick it up onThe same day, cost me £120 and about 30 in fuel so my current costs are now at £650.... Could of now bought a new bo by now x!?!
I drop the car off and he says I can't have it on my ramps for a day while the builders put it in so im going to put the diff in myself I said " have you ever done one before?" " Naah he said but I have a book on how to so it!!" I left sh*tting myself, but I have no option I'm out of cash and I need it doing, i go and get the car 2 days later and he has damaged a driveshaft seal, he replaces the seal (which I paid for) and it won't go into gear properly.... He has put in the wrong oil in, so I fork out more for some Honda MTF drive the car home and pop it in the garage, drove it yesterday little patch of oil on the garage floor .... Just thought the seal might not have seated properly and is sort it another day... Stopped at a friends house and had a look under, a noticeable amount of oil is pi**ing out the box from not even the side the seal was replaced, tbh it looks like its coming out the casing BUT the worst part..... It still if F*cking whining!!!!!!
What can I do?? I'm out of cash and can't afford to take it somewhere else, but I don't want him to touch it again
Should I take him to a small claims court and try and get my money back so i can take it somewhere That no's what there doing......I can't see any other option
Cheers in advance

Re: PLEASE HELP garage have done me over, need some advise
When does it whine? This is important! Clutch in? Clutch out? Neutral only? In gear while moving?
Honestly your guy seemed to start out ok. Input shaft bearing failure is extremely common on these things. (that said you should always listen to something before you attempt to make a diagnosis)
If all the bearings are new you need to start looking into something being shimmed wrong, a chipped gear tooth/teeth and/or mixmatched gears

Thank you for your reply! Okay so the car makes no whine in neutral or with clutch in or out, it only whines when you get up to speed, any gear between 2k and 4-5k, you carnet hear it when you really get your foot down but the car is quite loud so that may be why or the pitch may just go so high I carny hear it.
He did mention that one of the bearings had play in it, the one at the top the casing sits on is that normal?
When you say shimmed wrong what do you mean? Is it just the lsd that has shims ?He said he took all the shims out when he put the new LSD in because the lsd didn't have the same cone bearings on so with shims in it wouldn't fit but once he nocked the shims out it went in perfect. So he claims.
All the gears look mint apparently, all in perfect condition, he has a picture I think so I will get it and post

Diff bearings
Something is shimmed wrong
Mixmatched gears
Chipped gear teeth

You will always need a shim! No shims at all does not work.
Also, if your guy didn't swap the ring gear from the old diff onto the new one it will whine due to having a different wear pattern than the original.

Okay so just got under the car to try and see where the oil leak was coming from.
Removed the drive shaft to check the seal and it looked ok however the diff moves ? if I stick my finger in I can push it back and forth a couple of mm or so..... I'm guessing this shouldn't happen? And may be my issue and causing the leak?
I rang him to check and there are NO shims in what so ever, it was justed dropped in which could explain the new rattle its had if I put my accelerator all the way down in a high gear I get a rattling from like 2-3k
So the box will have to come off again, be correctly shimmed, diff bearings replaced while its off and check for chipped gear teeth, and Sorry what are Mixmatched gears? Gears that have been replaced?
Is it okay to use the ball bearing instead of the roller type it was made with to make the shimming easier?

if i understand correctly, there should be no movement in the diff. Or very little if anything. When i put in my itr lsd, the clearance was 0 between the diff bearing and the housing using the same shims my 99 gsr came with.

I would not drive the car with differential play. You will cause damage to the transmission.
Does this transmission have an aftermarket Final Drive Set?? If so, they will whine. Check to see if the final drive set is OEM or aftermarket.

Two used gears from two different transmissions. Even if they're both from identical transmissions, and they're both good they'll whine from having a different wear pattern, and they'll also wear quickly. Always replace gears in matched pairs. The same goes for the countershaft and ring gear. If your guy left the ring that came on the new diff it will whine. (the bolts for the ring gear are left hand/reverse thread btw)
