Re: Part 2: MFactory LSD review
Have you spoken with MF about this issue? Did you mention what fluid you are running?

Re: Part 2: MFactory LSD review
Looks like everyone is having good luck with their Mfactory diffs, except me. It hasn't broken yet (that I can tell), but it has almost crashed my car a dozen times on the freeway and I'm afraid to take it to the track. It goes straight when the tires are spinning, but When they hook up in 2nd or third, I almost run off the road or hit the car I'm passing, because it steers the car back and forth violently untill I lift off the throttle. Impossible to keep it in one lane at full throttle. Nobody will ride with me anymore, because it scares the crap out of them. What is happening is the diff is swapping the torque from side to side at full throttle. If I brace my elbows on my thighs real tight, with a death grip on the wheel, before I nail it, I can controll it somewhat. But I can't race it this way. I just got back from a 3,200 mile trip to Canada, and I should be dead 3 times. It gets worse when the oil is hot, not so bad when dead cold. Will try a 90 weight gear oil to see if that helps. I am going to send the diff back if that doesn't work; Another 6 weeks down time. I heard from Minitec that the Phantom Grip (semi LSD) does not have that problem. Any suggestions?

ramco is running this in a b-swapped old school mini I think... so yep, the problem could be anywhere in the susp or axles.

Hey Chris,
Did you disappear? Your images are disappearing! I am ready to by an MFactory diff, and I really need this guide for installing it. I can host the images permanently if you need.

Re: Part 2: MFactory LSD review
2. Remove ring gear and speed gear from old diff and install them on the MFactory LSD (bolts torque to ~75 lb/ft and reverse threaded).
3. Press new ball bearings (GSR/ITR or B16/LS depending on diff) on the MFactory LSD.
4. Install LSD into empty trans case and torque down some bolts.
5. Use angled feeler gauges to measure between trans case housing and ball bearing for diff shim spacing.
6. Select shim necessary to get the clearance you want.
7. Reassemble everything.

Re: Part 2: MFactory LSD review
Thought I would dig this thread up again as I have a new report on my LSD issue;
I pulled the M Factory diff out of my B16 swapped Clasic Mini, Actually had to, because I lost the motor on a missed gear shift. I got a new CTR (B16B) swap and replaced my old setup complete, so now have a stock Type R LSD. the car is no longer a death trap to drive; it goes relatively straight now; no diving back and forth under full throttle. Still using the same axles, CVs, steering, etc as before, so either the MFactory diff was broken or just couldn't make up it's mind which side to send torque bias too. I would not buy another one, at least not for a short wheel base car. It worked fine in the corners, and at steady state driving; even when both wheels were spinning, it went straight as an arrow, but watch out when wheels are hooked up, and you are trying to keep it in one lane.....Impossible!!!!!

Re: Part 2: MFactory LSD review
I talkled to one of my VTEC swap customers out at the track today. He just got his Mini running, with a B16B lump, and is having the same darting back-and-forth problem with his new Mfactory LSD, that I had. He wouldn't even take it out on the track. "Scary Torque steer"! Mine ran great all day, with the new stock CTR diff installed. So why am I posting this?.....I am disapointed with the lack of knowledge exibited by the reps at Mfactory....they don't seem to have a clue about this problem.....All they could tell me was "maybe you should have got a less agressive helix on the differential gears" and "send it back and we'll take a look at it. Well, it took me a week to get it out of the car(not easy like a Honda), so maybe I will send it back...if they pay postage and refund my money when they "can't find anything wrong with it". No one there ever mentioned that there were different Helix angles available, when I bought it either.
