p1456 and p0420 - NOT gas cap - already replaced cat - HELP!
Hi - I have a 98 Accord EX 6 cyl that has had a up to 4 CELs at once. After resolving other issues, there are 2 that remain: P0420 and P1456
After having replaced the cat and the o2 sensor (just in case), the P0420 disappeared, but the P1456 remained. I replaced the gas cap, code came back, replaced the gas cap with a Honda OEM, and code came back. I checked the purge valve and solenoid, and everything looked normal.
I just took it into a Honda dealer, and they said that they got the P0420 to pull, but the P1456 was not there. However, they cleared the codes and the monitors weren't ready, so it's possible the P1456 will come back on after some driving. The Honda rep told me that it was the Cat that was causing the P1456 code (even though the last I checked, the P0420 did not pull). I told him I replaced the cat 2 months ago. He had no answer.
Can someone please clear this up for me? The honda rep said all of their tests of the purge valve, solenoids and everything else came up clean.
If it is indeed the cat that I JUST BOUGHT, is there any cheaper alternative to Honda OEM that I can buy?

Re: p1456 and p0420 - NOT gas cap - already replaced cat - HELP!
P0420 is caused by a faulty converter, an O2 sensor will never cure this problem. I don't care what you say.
Replacing the converter with a cheap replacement will in many cases not provide satisfactory performance, and set a DTC. Aftermarket converters are often nickel-plated, which will not provide the same scrubbing as an OE converter.
P1456 is an EVAP malfunction, which could be related to a blocked canister, faulty fuel cap, faulty purge valve, or the lines in between.
When did this occur, and what was the last thing done to the car?
