Alrighty, so here's the pickle I'm in.

Two years ago (3 months after I bought the car) transmission goes. Car is at 108,000 miles.
Replaced with a used transmission (40,000 miles)
Check engine light comes on whenever I drive on the highway, would usually turn off whenever I shut the car off and reset itself, after a while it just kind of stayed.
Code P0740 mechanic says I need a new torque converter
Over the summer I did a transmission flush (or drainage) my boyfriend did it and didn't have the machine most shops use.
Code went away for a little while, came back.
Car won't pass inspection if the check engine light is still on

I have put sooooo much money into this car it's ridiculous
Mechanic suggested I replace the solenoid on the outside of the transmission but that costs $250 just for the part and it might not even solve the problem.
She only has 155,000 miles on her, which is like late 20's for a Honda.

GAH! WHAT DO I DO?!?!!?!?!?
Replace torque converter
Replace solenoid
Try actual transmission flush?

If the solenoid was defective, you would have a Torque Converter Clutch Circuit Performance of Open code.

The converter clutch circuit is either mechanically clogged, or the converter clutch itself has failed. (or some combination of both.)

Either way, removal and replacing the converter and refurbishing the transaxle are the best courses of action. You most likely have a clogged screen witch destroyed the converter.
