Default Wrapping tin foil around intake?33% colder air?

Hey. I was just wondering if wrapping tin foil or aluminum foil around your intake will actually make the air 33% cooler. I know it makes sense because the tin foil is shiny so it insulates the intake and reflects the heat waves but can it really help that much?I know I probably answered my own question, but was just wondering if also any of you have your intake wrapped in foil.

Would that mean that the polished aluminum ones are 33% cooler than the ceramic coated ones? Not from the comparisons I've seen. Companies like AEM spend a lot of money doing research and testing. If something as easy and cheap as foil would have worked I think they would use it and increase their profit margin.

I have thought about using header wrap though.

The foil would sorta help, but not that much. It would get heat soaked very quickly and stop insulating. A true insulating wrap on the headers and intake would work much better.

Where did you get this "33%" number from?

Keep in mind the constant numbers games advertisers play. "33% cooler," what does that mean? Let's say outside air temp is 70 deg F, temp at the cold air inlet is 80 deg F, and finally the air at the throttle body is 85 deg F.

So what do you really gain? 33% of the rise from the inlet to the outlet, right? That's 33% of 5 deg, or 1.67 deg F!

Notice the enormous difference in advertising impact when they claim "33%" instead of 1.7 deg. The first sounds much better doesn't it.

It's like products that claim, "up to 30 hp gain." Think about that It means the product can deliver 30hp, or 20, or 10, or 5, or ZERO hp, and still perform as claimed. Buyer beware.
