Drive engine while burning oil, safe?
Well, I am going to be buying a 90 lude si that has a bad piston ring. It burns about 1 qt. per 300 miles. I have to pick it up from about 80 miles away. I have heard it is dangerious to drive a long distance when engine is burning oil, is this true?
Besides the fact that the engine runs low on oil is why it wouldn't be safe, but isn't there a chance of fire?
What precautions should I take? Thanks.

Re: Drive engine while burning oil, safe? (Orion)
I wouldn't worry about it. A friend of mine drove 100 miles a day in a 1988 Integra. He poured a quart in every day. There could be a chance of fire if the oil is leaking on the exhaust manifold, but not if it's burning in the engine. Make sure there is oil in the engine before you leave, and bring a quart or two in case it's low or it burns it.

I wouldn't worry about it if your just driving it home to fix. As long as you keep plenty of oil in it. If you want to be as safe as possible, take a inuture fire extinguisher
