What if the point is to "put something together" for CHEAP! Power may be near D16Z output but truly how much would it set you back. I have a stock pile of non-vtec heads and b16 short blocks. When my LS-V takes a poop guess whats waiting...

correct me if I'm wrong, but all you theoretically have to do is plug the VTEC oil orifices, get the nonvtec pulleys (crank, cam gears, and proper belts), the right head gasket, and tune it
...with balanced internals you would be able to redline much higher than a nonvtec motor, but it probably wouldn't be worth it with that head

I'm sorry but i'd rather not drive my car than have something with D series power in it.

What timing belt would you even use? A lot of this build has always been speculation because no one has ever bothered to try it.

Gibsanez you miss the point. Why do people drive D16s in the first place.....hmmmm they are gas savers and cheap!!! If you have the parts laying around why not use them? Now that I think about it, you'd have to go with B16 pulleys because the deck height on that block will only work with a b16a belt.
