Default Vacuum leak or internal problems?

My car idled around 3000 rpm uncontrollably for like 5 minutes and then droped to 2500 rpm and idled irratically from 1000 rpm to 2500 rpm. I figured since it took 5 minutes to do it, it had to be something other than a vacuum leak because a vacuum leak would happen instantly, right?

check coolant sensor or your iacv motor..there's a calibration routine for it in the haynes manual.
