Re: timing question (sp)
this is a fresh rebuild motor.it hasnt been started.the crank pulley was machined for a crank trigger.it seems like maye the timing marks on the pulley are off or maybe im assuming the wrong one is the timing one.it cranks and seems like it is too advanced to start.that is why im asking about setting the timing.

Re: timing question (civbeater90)
On yours, the timing is set on the crank? Is there only one mark? Mine is set at the flywheel, and there is a BTDC mark, a 15 BTDC mark and a small mark on each side of that one. There is usually a service connector you need to jumper to set timing also.

To the left of the exhaust manifold where the tranny meets the engine, there should be a small rubber plug in the block. Remove it and shine the timing light in there. To retard it turn the distributor towards the front of the car.

ANd the service connector is a Blue 2 pin plug taped up above passenger kick panel. I use a paper clip to jump the two wires. Make sure it is at proper idle when adjusting.

Put your stock pulley back on! Your main bearings will thank me in 10k miles.

Haha, no kidding. Don't mess with aftermarket/modified crank pulley's on a Honda motor!
Just put a stock one back on, and you won't have to worry about any timing issues.

If you are having this much trouble, what I would do is get the #1 cylinder at TDC make sure the ignition rotor is on the #1 plug position and make sure your cam gear arrow is pointing up and the alignment marks are even with the top of the head. THat is a good place to start.
