Default symptons of bad fuel filter/fuel pump?

I am having hesitation on the feeway driving at 4-5k rpm. It is only under light throttle, full throttle there is no problem.

I am wondering if it could be a bad fuel filter or fuel pump.

what signs are there to look for?

If the old fuel filter is really old then I would change it anyway.Your probably detonating and don't even know if.And use 93 octane at least.

I had a poor flowing fuel filter, but it was only apparent when when first jumping on the throttle. It would hesitate for a second or 2 and then accelerate like normal. What your have doesn't sound like the fuel filter, but the pump i'm not sure about.

I'd guess it would be worse at wide-open throttle, when its using the most gas & needs the highest pressure. Rig up a fuel pressure gauge so you can watch it while driving. See what it does as you accelerate.

The best way to check is to hook up a fuel presure gauge and see if the presure drops off when it's acting up.
