Maybe you misunderstood, or the guy is a moron. Spark plugs need a gap to fire across. The size of the gap is indicated on the emissions lable under the hood or in the owner's manual for your vehicle. Probably what he meant was, platinums and some others come pre-gapped for your application. A small cardboard sleeve around the firing end of the plug would imply this. It is always a good idea to double check the gap before installation.

you should go w/ some denzo or ngk iridiums instead. much better plugs and they are oem. working at a shop ive seen cars come in running just fine and missfire like mad after we put in some platinum 4 plugs in.

Stick with the $1-$2 NGK spark plugs, they're inexpensive and do the job well. I don't know what motor your spark plugs are going in but the gap is most likely a .044.

the reason i say iridium plugs is because they last longer without problems. That being said, if you are like me you will change your spark plugs more often than you need to anyway, so that migt be a good bet. Ive never ran the regular ngk plugs so i cant tell you how they do. im pretty sure a b16 calls for iridiums however. could be wrong.
