Icon3 some tough questions about CKP please help!!!

I own a EJ1 with a B16a2 that hasn't started since the swap was done. I was looking around the engine troubleshooting and I realized the there was no sensor behind the crank (CKP?) I just have a few questions for the techs so I can get this 2yr project on the road!!!

SO, i'm using an OIL pump from a JDM B16a on my B16a2 and was wondering whether or not the JDM b16 even has a location for a CKP sensor? (i did not see one behind my crank)

-another question I had was whether or not the car would even run w/o the CKP?
-and thirdly, whats the difference in location between the CKF and CKP?

Any input would be greatly appreciated!

The crank position sensor is part of the distributor like the TDC & CYP sensors. No, the car wouldn't run without it. The CKF detects misfires. The CKP detects the position of the crank for computing fuel injection timing, ignition timing and RPM.

CKF is the sensor behind the main crank pulley. CKP is located in the distributor. I believe JDM series dont have the CKF sensor. If this is going into an obd2 car and running an obd2 ecu then yes you will need to buy an oil pump that supports the CKF sensor with the proper ecu, as for obd1 motors dont need this sensor. I have an obd2 vehicle running on an obd1 block and obd1 ecu so i have no CEL since the obd1 ecu also does not support the CKF sensor. Another thing is that the car will start without the CKF but with the CKP it will also start but run like crap with a CEL

thanks for the clarification,
i also swapped out the knock sensor from the JDM B16A and put it on the A2, would having a dysfunctional or obd1 knock sensor also prevent the vehicle from firing up???

im running an OBD2 GSR harness with a P28 ECU

No, it wouldn't. Have a look at the plugs immediately after trying to start it a few times. When one of the distributor sensors isn't working properly, the spark plugs usually end up covered in fuel because the fuel is being sprayed at the wrong time. Make sure the valve sover, thermostat and battery grounds have a good connection. Listen closely to the injectors through a stethoscope or piece of metal held against each one. Make sure they are all clicking regularly. How does it sound when you try to start it? Do you hear missing and the motor trying to start or does the starter just crank without even poor combustion. Make sure the valve and ignition timing are set correctly. Make sure the fuel pump is priming. Check the fueses and relays. GL

Fuses and relays are fine under hood + dash, Dizzy, starter, and main relay are brand new, I just Re-did the Timing yesterday and is Dead on, i can also hear the Fuel Pump priming, I need to check for codes but dont know what type of clip to use to check for codes. i have a video on photobucket of the engine trying to start but doesnt play on the HT forums =[

sounds like timing, but you can use a paper clip to jump your ecu for any cel but the thing is if the motor doesnt start it wont read any CEL until the motor runs a few cycles.
