Reliability: H22A vs. B series....
Well, the more i look into engine swaps, the more i cant help but to ponder the benefits of an H22. Now, all things considered, the price of an h22a with mounts pretty much the same compared to a b18c1.
Now my question: could a h22a be considered as reliable as a b series? This will go in a 92 civic hatch that will be daily driven and see HPDE/track days. No drag racing.
Also, dont BS me and tell me how bad the car will handle. I dont want to hear it.
Thanks much for the help.

I've have to say the H series transmissions are not half as good as B series transmissions and they oddly are way more expensive.
Neither motors are more reliable than the other, its gonna matter what kind of one you get. A good condition B18 will outlast a bad H22 and the other way around.

Well good morning Mike,
I have been researching swaps for the past two years now........it's all on what you want.
Are you going to want to upgrade the engine? Or are you leaving it stock.
Stock for Stock the H22A is better (not reliably wise)
However, if you even have the remote idea of upgrading, you are going to want a B series.....N/A or turbo. I say this because of size, you have to struggle just to fit A/C or Power steering with a H22, fitting a turbo is almost impossible.
So here it is, Stay stock get the 2.2
Upgrading, get the 1.8
And for just a little more insite, read the quote in my signature.

Re: Reliability: H22A vs. B series.... (Spade)
Morning Spade, thanks for the response.
As for mods, they will stay light. I do not have any aspirations to go turbo on this car, since it will be mostly a daily driver/track *****.
The mods i plan on doingnif i did the h22a would simply be a a good I/H/E set up. And, maybe cams. Maybe.
So would you say a h22a could be just as reliable as a b series?
And yes, i have also been researching swap for god knows how long. But like your quote says.......torque make cars go fast. So it is hard to not consider this swap.
I have sent couple emails to David Newman, and he seems to have had great sucess with his h22a civic, both on track and the strip. Although i probably will never take teh car down teh 1/4, its nice to know the capabilities. So i figured i would do some research.
Thanks again

or get an LS and bore it to 84.5mm and get the stroker kit, and viola a 2.2+L engine that screams sleeper, you can even put a VTEC head on there to keep the top end breathing, but don't expect more than a 7000-7500 redline, due to rod ratio

The H22A can be more reliable since it has a closed deck. At least the pre-1995 H22A does.
