Quick VTEC distributor question for OBD2-OBD1 conversion......
hey guys, i'm going to be running a chipped p28 OBD1 ecu with an obd2-b to obd1 conversion harness. I was under the impression that i would need an obd1 dizzy with this set -up (for an lsvtec) in my 99 ls, but i recently heard contrasting info that the dizzy must match the obd of the car. so should i be using an obd1 or obd2 dizzy in an obd 1 converted car??? any help would be great, as it stands i have a new obd1 gsr dizzy from distributor king in my room......

any obd1 or up will work fine. if ls distrib just grind off 2rd bolt still works fine.

well, that is definitely good news. as stated I was under the impression i needed an obd2 dizzy, can anyone confirm that the obd1 vtec dizzy will work without mods.

Keep your stock OBD2 distributor, it will work just fine.

my obd2 distributor will work fine once one of the legs is cut off (its from a 99 ls), so instead of this "ghetto" fix i just wanted to know if the obd1 vtec distributor will hook-up without modifications.......

Your LS distributor will only bolt up if you hack off the leg as said (GhEtTo)... Other than that... the VTEC distributors have a diff bolt pattern and the internals are not exactly the same.
Since you prolly still have the original OBD2 engine bay harness... you can only plug in an OBD2 distributor to match your harness plug.
Your options are:
*Ghettofied LS distributor
*OBD2 Vtec dizzy
*OBD1 Vtec dizzy and swap in your LS internals w/ harness plug (obd2)
*OBD1 Vtec dizzy, redo the pinouts to your LS dizzy's plug (pain in da ***)
Keep in mind... Vtec dizzy's have a different ICM, so if you run the LS dizzy, you will need to replace the ICM with a Vtec one quite soon.

Re: (X2BOARD)
just wanted to say thanks to X2BOARD for a very informative reply. it looks like my obd1 distributor is going to be repinned. i did some research and there are two separate plugs for the obd1 distributors while my obd2 engine harness only has one, some modifications definitely need to take place.....

Re: Quick VTEC distributor question for OBD2-OBD1 conversion...... (jamessh1)
well, i am no expert on repinning a distributor, but with my new obd1 dizzy there are 7 wires going to one plug (one open slot for another wire), and 2 wires (black/yellow and blue) in the other plug. With only one open spot in the one plug (8 total wires can fit, 7 spots are filled), how am i going to go about fitting 9 wires into 8 plug holes..........

can't you run the extra wire external from the dizzy? that would make sense if you don't have the space in the plug just pull it out throw a nice butt connector on and put them together...

Damn... yer taxing a brother's brain...lol
I haven't pinned a dizzy in a long time... but if I remember right... the Black yellow wire can be hardwired outside of the harness (yeah... not as nice as stock...but eh)... and the blue wire which should be a tach signal, can be left unconnected.
Now this is just for your own info... on my car I'd rather have the OEM harness... but I know how cash flow can be... dizzy's are not cheap.
Do a search and read some threads, I'm sure someone has the pinout diagram or at least a pic to help you further.

Re: Quick VTEC distributor question for OBD2-OBD1 conversion...... (kpachy360)
i got everything settled...........i phoned up distributor king and told the guy the situation, since i never installed the dizzy he said he would exchange it for an obd2 vtec dizzy and i would have to pay the difference. i live in canada, where dizzy king happens to be located and the guy just went ahead and had the thing shipped today before i even shipped out the obd1 dizzy (i did ship it out today also). i had them ship overnight so everything should still go in next week .
I just wanted to extend more thanks to X2BOARD, you've replied to all of my requests for help and have did your best to give me specific info, to you!
