Push start button wiring help
Ok I have a engine push start button I'm trying to wire into my car.
It's a 1995 Accord US Wagon
The option I'm trying to install is;
Pin 1 - 'Power'
Pin 2 - 'Accessories'
Pin 3 - 'Ground'
The word 'Power' seems to be a bit vague for me, or I'm just simple minded.
I have spliced into the yellow cable on the ign harness for 'Accessories'
Ground is pretty self explanatory.
Here's a wiring colour explanation I've found;
HONDA ACCORD 2DR 4DR 5DR WGN EX DX LX 1994-95
Remote Start Wiring Location
Starter Wire : BLK/WHT IGNITION SWITCH HARNESS
Tach Sensor : BLU (-) AT DISTRIBUTOR
Ignition (1) : BLK/YEL IGNITION SWITCH HARNESS OR FUSEBOX
Ignition (2) : WHT/BLK IGNITION SWITCH HARNESS
Accessory : YEL IGNITION SWITCH HARNESS
I've tried hooking up the 'Starter Wire' to the 'Power' pin, yet the button lights up only when pressed and nothing happens.
I've tried hooking up the solid white cable from the ignition harness which I believe is 'constant power' and the same thing happens.
The way I'm trying to set it up so that the button actually works lol and the LED is constantly lit.
Any advice please? Thanks!
If you need any other information I'll try my best, it's just electrical stuff goes straight over my head.
EDIT: I think I've found where I'm going wrong.. everywhere. Power would be a cable running to the positive terminal at battery and accessory would be routed down to the starter solenoid?

Re: Push start button wiring help
If you wanted the switch lit while the key is on try this...
"power" conected to your blk/yel ign. 1
"accessories" to your blk/wht stater wire

Re: Push start button wiring help
Hey guys thanks for the replies.
Have the switch working now, have wired power to the battery, access to black/white starter wire as nub stated and earth to neg battery.
Just going to try and keep it lit as nub suggested and will let you know! Been pretty rainy last few days so have put it off for a while

Re: Push start button wiring help
The ground on the button is only for the light in the button. Remove it from the battery and connect it to the metal under dash structure.
The battery connection also needs to be moved inside the cab.
The starter is a high amp draw circuit. Pulling a wire all the way from the battery adds resistance which equals heat. This can melt the wires insulation and cause a short and possibbly catch your car on fire.
Keep the wires as short and as large a gauge poosible. Ideally you would use a relay triggered by the button to carry the current instead of the button.
