from what I've heard you aren't supposed to run just synchromesh, its supposed to be a 1/2 and 1/2 mix between synchromesh and 10w30 motor oil, I had a friend that used it and said he didn't notice it make a difference

There's a recent thread on oiling that you might want to check out- https://honda-tech.com/forums/tech-misc-15/what-lubes-2702501/

I ran it for about 10,000 miles this summer in my LS tranny (trans has 125,000). It seemed to work well although to be honest the trans shifted perfect before I replaced the fluid. Ran it with a b20 and aggressive clutch and never had any gearbox issues. Rebuilding the tranny and wont be using this stuff again (not because i didn't like it though).

No, I don't suggest using GM fluid in your Honda. Use either Honda MT fluid or what I use is the best synthetic 10w30 I can find. Crap in the tranny oil can make it thicker and grittier. While this thick gritty oil wears out the transmission, it can also provide extra grip for the gears, hiding tranny problems. When you change the transmission oil and lose that extra grip, things can start to slip more if they have worn down enough. Some people have wrongfully viewed this as a problem caused by the newer oil.

i know a lot of people, myself included, who use synchromesh and have heard 99% good about it on the internet. It seems to be the most commonly used alternative to Honda MT fluid. My advice to anyone who wants to play it safe would be to use Honda MT fluid unless you have some aftermarket parts inside.

Last winter I bought a 93 accord 5spd just as a winter beater. And I did all the maintance work on it, oil change, timing belt, clutch, etc. And I changed the tranny oil and used 10w-30. Thinking it would be no problem over the winter because its what i used in my b16a tranny over the summer. WELL, the 10w-30 sucked in cold mornings. It felt rough and basically felt like grinding into each gear until the car warmed up.

Soo, I was thinking of using honda mtf but they wanted $8.50 a qt. f*ck that. So I drained about a quart of the motor oil and put in a qt of the pennzoil syncromesh. And the difference was night and day. It didn't matter if it was 10 degrees or 70 it shifted nice and smooth.

So I did that same to my b16a tranny. I added a qt to the motor oil. But there was barely any differnce.

SO, if ur in warm climates motor oil or the expensive Honda mtf will be fine. But in cold temps, 1 qt of the penn syncromesh helps alot.
