Parking E-brake doesnt work

Parking E-brake doesnt work
My piston isnt seized and works fine with the brake pedal. When I pull the ebrake up, the other side locks the passenger wheel but the driver side turns freely by hand. I adjusted the cable so that it was very tight and that did not help.
I had a friend pull the e-brake handle as I watched the ebrake mechanism. The parking lever/cam assembly rotates freely when pulled by the cable but doesnt do anyting to move the piston. The hub spins freely by hand.
So whats the deal? Can I fix this or do I have to buy a new caliper?

Re: Parking E-brake doesnt work (Muckman)
If you want to rebuild the caliper, I suppose the normal rebuild kit only has the rubber parts. Once you get the handbrake ratchet stuff apart (inside the caliper), then you'll know what's broken & you can try to get parts.
If you think corrosion is at work here, then maybe lots of part are bad. Maybe you'll want a whole caliper anyway??
Maybe try this first... Pull the handbrake (or work the lever on the caliper) many many times. It might be the auto-adjuster just has to 'catch up' to where the piston is. If there's a dead spot in the ratchet, this might let you postpone the new/rebuilt caliper for a while?
