Default oversized rod bearing experiances ?

Q:

If I have 1 rod journal which may need to be turned a little bit, would it be okay to just have that journal turned and not the other rod bearings so that I can use std size bearings on 3 of the 4 rod crank journals?

if it's not much more I don't mind turning all 4 rod crank journals, but i'd prefer not to.

FYI,
I've rebuild several of motors using acl race and non-race standard size bearings with great sucess.... just never had to do one using oversized bearings.

i thought the exact same thing.

From personal experience ive had great success with oversized bearings. im not 100% sure if the bearings or the machine shop or both had anything to do with this but i always always ran aussie made acl duraglide bearings. ive never ran the race sets.

From what ive gathered talking to different engine builders and machine shops, honda uses a special coating/spray hardner and when you turn or grind down the crank , you eliminate that coating. it honestly sounds like jibberesh to me cause i have not the slightest clue as to how other cranks are made and treated.

About three months ago some kid brought his car by saying it needed a rebuild due to loss of compression. as soon as i saw the car i knew what the engine had. the motor was put together way back in early spring/summer of '01 and was running .10 over rod and .10 over crank bearings. not long after that cracked the motor open and the crank did look a bit worn and defitnitely needed new bearings but after 11+ years of a very hard abused life, i say we got our moneys worth.

im curious to hear from other builders on this forum as well. everybody always just says "run a stock crank" or "never run a cut crank" without explanation
