I have both of these trannies. the ys1 grinds third. which one should i use? i am swaping a b17 into 88 crx. everyone seems to like the ys1 for the gearing. are the y1 better since the have lsd?

the ys1 has a shorter final drive (4.4)
the y1 has a 4.26 final drive but has lsd
also the 92-up teggie came with the bigger spline

I'd go witht he JDM B16A YS1 w/LSD tranny if you have access to one. If it has grinding problems you can use the syncros out of a hydro 92-95 B16A Y21 transmission, US or JDM, since the YS1 & Y21 use the same internals (bigger spline).

This is a tough question. The YS-1 would be better if it didn't have a grind. I'd say use the y1 for now. I have a y1 and it only really sucks in 1st gear, the others are fun to go through. As you save up money, maybe you can get the ys1 fixed and throw in a quaife? That would be a badass tranny. I think you will be more pissed with a grind rather than a tranny you think is slowing you down a little. By the way, LSD is great.

One thing nobody asked was, do you know for sure your Y1 has lsd, because not all of them do. Your first post implies they all have it, but not true. Just make sure by checking the casing for the "lsd" stamp or check the hole through the tranny where the axels go, you should be able to see right threw. If no lsd on the Y1, then definitly fix and go with the YS1.

some cable LSD tranny's also have an LSD stamp as seen here:

yes, you can use any 90-93 integra axles with the Y1 tranny, they're all the same, just make sure you have a B16 half-shaft, as some of the US 90-93 integra half-shafts can differ in length sometimes (auto tranny has a longer half-shaft if im not mistaken).
As far as the clutch goes for Y1 tranny, I believe you should look into using a 90-91 integra clutch as the 92-93 YS1 tranny's might be different in spec due to the bigger spline.
