oem fabric adhesive vs aftermarket.
Why does oem adhesive hold the fabric for so much longer than aftermarket?
I use 3m yellow headliner and probably 3 other adhesives for fabric and vinyl but none of them holds as good as oem adhesive
I properly clean everything also not just slapping on dirty panels.

3M super 77 comes highly recommended. However, some say the heat really gets to the 3M products.

I've never had anything hold nearly as well as OE.
I've given up on fabric headliners. My next one will probably be a skinned CF panel.

My friend has used 3m Super 77 and the heat down here in the southwest just gets to it and makes it sag.
I asked around at a few upholstery shops and they told me that they use: DAP Weldwood HHR Contact Cement ( http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...=STRK:MEWAX:IT) and spray it on with an actual spray gun. But I rather not have to buy a compressor and spray gun, that's why I am mainly looking at aerosol sprays.
At the moment, I am really leaning towards the Loctite Headliner Spray since there has been multiple good reviews on here and via google. To those that have used the Loctite Headliner Spray, how long has your headliner lasted and does your car go through variable weather changes or does it mostly stay in the garage?
So, when you guys place the new fabric on, do you take off the old foam or fabric? Or do you just lay it right on?

I used 3m yellow headliner adhesive and it didn't work as well. on foam backed headliner.
you cant really press on foam backed liner because it will soak and have dips in it so after about a week it peeled off in curvy spots.

why does aftermarket upholstery not hold as good as oem?
I used the strongest 3m adhesive I could find and headliner lifted after few weeks anyway.
i did it right way without stretching or putting too much tension on it. ive done headliners and vinyl before. but it never holds as good as oem
is there a different process that we are missing?

I use the permatex from autozone in the orange can about $12. Spray both headliner and new fabric. Wait 10 min for it to tack up and press hard. I use foam backed headliner fabric from yourautotrim.com. If the headliner cardboard/fiberglass soaks up too much i put on another coat in the opposite direction. You must remove all of the old foam first.

You missed a detail. They wait for it to tack up first so pressing doesn't put the glue any deeper into the foam, thus minimal dimples.
Personally I would think after tack up, I'd roll it with a paint roller instead of hand pressing so it's evenly depressed everywhere.

that's what I did too but it didn't stick either first one I pressed hard but it got dimples
second time I didn't press hard got no dimples but it didn't stick in uneven spots...
what about vinyl
after sitting for a year my vinyl pulled off the panels. even though I used the strongest 3m adhesive as well and its been prepper and heat cycled after I put the vinyl on

You are using too much glue. Or the wrong kind of glue Or not waiting long enough for it to tack up long enough.
You want a glue that sprays out like spider webs. Touch it to see if it has tacked. If it feels wet wait longer. It should stick to your finger tips

yea I know how to do it.
the 3m77 never hardens its always soft and rubbery.
you not understanding the question. I'm talking about long term.
I ve never seen any aftermarket adhesive hold for more than a year or two.
it starts to curl up and fall off...
oem holds for long time. I'm asking why.
not asking what I'm doing wrong because ive done plenty of vinyl and it never holds up over long periods even professional shops.
