Default OEM or Aftermarket crankshaft?

What are the advantages/disadvantages of an aftermarket crankshaft over and OEM crankshaft? I can purchase an 89mm LS crank for $100 or an aftermarket 89mm crank for $700 +. What's the difference?

It all depends on your build, Factory honda cranks are steel and are very strong to begin with.

the oem crank will take watever you throw at it and then some, not to mention they are pretty well balanced

I'm looking at building a B18C5 block with an 89mm crank LS length rods and 85mm bore. I just can't see spending the extra $600 bucks for a scat (or other brand) crank when it seems as though I can get the same performance & reliability from an used LS crank. Am I correct in my thinking? Someong please tell me the advantage of going aftermarket.

Your thinking is correct unless your going for a crazy stroker motor or some boost monster you DO NOT need a aftermarket crank

there is no advantage in going aftermarket; unless as sayd above you want a stroke not found in oem cranks.
personally i think nothing beats oem reliability.
