Re: no oil in oil filter!!!HELP!
Since all your oil flows to the filter it sounds doubtful that it was actually empty, especially after dyno pulls and track runs. Is it completely empty and dry when you take it off? Is it the right part number for the enigine?

Well, if your engine is still running, then all is well. Id love for no oil to come out of the filter when I do an oil change...makes for a clean job. lol

Re: no oil in oil filter!!!HELP!
ya cut the filter open, there has to be oil in it. i would go with a different brand, it would be nice to not have oil in the filter for the change but it would be nice to know the filter was doing its job and capturing those dangerous little particles

Re: no oil in oil filter!!!HELP!
I just did an oil change and not much oil came out with it. Im glad nice and easy nothing really to clean up. And seeing that you cranked and took the filter off with oil in it you should be good to go!

I remember noticing this from time to time also. I think it mostly happens after the car has been sitting before I changed the oil.
I remember it was common on the race motor.

Re: no oil in oil filter!!!HELP!
hey guys... i am noticing the same in a D16 engine...
I noticed the cold start noise that occurs by, in the mornings of days after having stoped the engine in the day before while it was fully warm.
I also tested this morning by unscrewing the oil filter without any preparation and, hold and behold not a single drop of oil came out, nor of the engine nor the filter... the filter had some remains of oil inside it but the spinning spreaded it inside so it there was not enough oil to drip a single drop "in this operation".
I am currently using Mahle OC 196. and the sound lasts for 1 or 2 seconds.
The recurrent engine sounds durring cold starts happen also with the OEM Honda Oil Filter... Purflux made in this case (Made in France) because this is the filter thathonda dealer sels to the public. you guys must have diferent oem brands in USA and other continents. This filter is painted dark green.
I havent tested this with the, what i call, the original "Made in Japan" Oil filters, which is painted black. This filter seem to be the one they aply when you let the honda dealer oficial workshop do the maintenance.
Other things i have noticed....
Even when i do O.C. and leave all the oil run out of the engine's lubrication system, if i simply pour new oil into the oil filter and aply it, this alone, is suficient to have a super normal engine start with no strange noise.
So conclusions are the anti-drain back valves of the oil filters are not working properly and let the oil drain to the sump during the night.
My engine is old. So I was thinking of looking to the lubrication system desing to see if there is any possibility of the oil being dripping out of the lubrication system completely, through the crankshaft bearing/rods.
Anyone that have built this engines, D16Zx, if you can opinate regarding this, i would appreciate, thanks in advance
I myself, will try to do some testing with the old oil filter that i haven't disposed off yet, to see if i can conclude anything by visual inspection of any leaks on the filter.
Thanks

Re: no oil in oil filter!!!HELP!
well update...
the engine block has the crankshaft positioned lower than the filter. so, in a older engine the bearing clearances must be enough to leave the oil drain through the bearings over night.
the old oil pump, the oil filter anti-drain back valve leaving the slight drop to flow its suficient to empty the system of any oil during the night
this is very common, there are very few people that have posted about this but the testemony is the same.
solution, for now...
try the bigger aftermarket oil filter(stores more oil). i ordered hp-1004 from k&n, lets see what he does. there isn't any in stock here in portugal, thing has to come from uk. lets wait and see.
