Icon5 Plugging in alternator stalls the engine?

Hi there,

so I had just finished charging the A/C on my friends car.

And prior we had drivin a few miles with the alternator unplugged because it seems to be the culprit causing my cam sensor C.E.L. code, Even though the cam sensor (and the whole distributor is new).

I actually have a thread about that HERE.
https://honda-tech.com/forums/tech-m...-smog-3294471/

so, before my friend left for home (since you shouldn't drive that far with no charge) before I closed the hood I plugged the alternator back in. And it actually stalled the engine. When she started it back up, right away instant C.E.L. for the cam sensor, typical rough idle, etc.

and she had the alternator tested at autozone herself. And it did fail. While it is charging, the diode, or voltage regulator is bad. I tested it to, seemed to be under charging.
funny thing is the battery light never came on while we were driving it with the alternator unplugged.

has anyone experienced this?

Is this not further proof that the faulty alternator is the cause for the C.E.L.? Since it runs perfectly fine when you unplug the alternator. And runs like crap, and throws the same C.E.L. code for the the part I changed. With the alternator plugged in?

I'll finally have the time to replace it tomorrow. So we will see.

but I had to ask if anyone else experienced that. I havent in my 29 years

I appreciate any and all comments

It's fairly common for the alternator to cause that issue.

I hope you don't plan on getting a parts store alternator. Denso from rockauto is the best option, but if not that, then get anything other than a parts store alternator, preferably a name brand one.
