Default Exhaust- Difference?

Bought a 2.5" stainless steel cutback exhaust that's for a 2/4 door civic years 92-00. I have a 96 civic hatchback. So there's the first problem, wondering what the differences are between the two (read something about how it bends over the rear axle and that it isn't able to interchange between platforms) and if there is any way I can still use the exhaust on my hatch without having to cut into anything. Another question: I've seen something about exhausts that are for American manufactured civic's will not fit the Canadian manufactured civics'. I don't see how this would be a problem because I assume they are all built on mostly the same platform. But if you guys could answer some of this or all of it that'd be absolutely great! THANKS!!!

I know for sure that the catback exhaust for hatch and coupe are different, is shorter on the hatch so it wouldn't fit right on a coupe. As for the down pipe all the way down to the axle back, I have no clue what the differences are.
