it looks like a motor, that i can assure you.

I hate cheap block guards, they usually cause more harm than good.

head is built. I see bronze valve guides, possibly supertech. bronze guides work great, but dont last long. retainers and springs are aftermarket too, though theres no way to tell what brand. head is ported too, but also no way to know how much its been ported. you'll definitely want to get the intake manifold port matched to the head.

pistons are new, though I can't read the numbers on them to identify them. block is clean, deck surface is very clean bit is not freshly shaved.

please get timing covers.

ditch that rubber vacuum cap on the water pipe, it WILL dry rot and pop. replace it with a cap of some sort that is designed specifically for cooling systems.

the rtv on the intake flange deeply concerns me. that tells me the assembler was a moron, and I'd be skeptical about the entire motor based on just that one thing.

Ditto. Hondabond on the intake gaskets is not a great sign. That and the crank pulley looks like the engine has been dropped. Valve cover paint job makes me think it wasn't built by someone who is particular to details.
I'd always be weary of buying an engine someone else "built".

Cam lobes look good though. No unusual wear patterns that I see. ☺

Thanks for the input guys! So I looked at the motor and there were some "questionable" things

1. Some oil build up on 2 of the intake valves. Here are some pics

Clean and closed

Guides had oil all over them. Also valve was open

Another pic of cylinder above

Clean and closed

Clean and closed

What's up with the white stuff?

2. I'm not sure the order of how the valves should open but I would think it would be similar to the way the Pistons fire (1&4 and 2&3 the same). Well the valves weren't like that. Seemed like 2 would open a little then 3 would open.

Needless to say I didn't buy the motor. Would like to know what's up with this though. Thanks ahead of time

The oil on the valves is probably just leaking valve stem seals.
The white hard stuff is basically burnt oil (carbon compounds) but it gets super hot enough and turns it white.

The open/closed valves are purely dictated by the cams and what stroke the cylinder is on (intake/compression/power/exhaust). In other words, it's normal.

Ok thanks for the clarification. So the burning oil would it be coming from the seals then since its on the stems or would it be coming from the rings? Dude said he broke the motor in with the turbo on (big no no from what I heard).

It's a b18c1 with 1500 miles it shouldn't be burning oil in the first place lol my gsr has an unknown amount of miles and I don't have white **** on my exhaust valves

Moved to the misc/tech section as this thread doesn't really apply to precision machine work or precision engine assembly.

This is more of an engine "appearance" thread.

I agree, it shouldn't be lol.
I have never came across a written or published way to check or test for leaking valve stem seals.
Breaking an engine in with a turbo may not be necessarily bad as long as it was done correctly. There are a bunch of things that can contribute to oil consumption even more on a turbocharged setup. Even small things like ring end gaps and piston to wall clearance can affect oil consumption.

Yeah I did the same. The whole white on the exhaust valves really messed with me. then when i went to compare my motor to that i just knew something was up.

Never got the compression numbers off of it? (Tested?) That would be the ultimate on how an engine "looks," IMHO.

You are 100% correct. According to the dude, someone drove the car and fell in love with the motor. He put a 200$ down payment and they pulled it but the dude backout due to lack of funds. So no compression #
