How to check if T-belt has jumped a tooth? (D16Z6)
Hey guys I have some serious valve ticking and have had smoke coughing out of the intake manifold when trying to start before. I'm guessing that it's probably bent valves.
Anyway i'm wondering if my timing belt has jumped a tooth causing the timing to be thrown off and bending the valves? I did notice at one time that my belt was a bit loose.
How can I check to see if my timing belt has jumped a tooth? The motor is a d16z6.

Set the crank pulley at TDC and then check to see if the cam gear is lined up correctly(with the two notches lined up with the head). That's one way, if it runs you can always check your timing with a light also.

I've heard of checking TDC by taking out one of the plugs and then sticking a rod down where the spark plug should be and feeling when the cylinder reaches the highest point? Is this a common method?
