HOW can i get a good ride with a lowered car???????
im thinking of lowering my car soon, i have had everything from cut springs to lowering springs on my past cars (r.i.p. ) and the ride was horrible..
what can i do, is it the shocks? what am i doing wrong, would strut bars help?
any advice is welcome(feel free to flame )

get good aftermarket shocks and a softer spring rate for a smooth, bounce free ride. not too stiff.

Strut bars would not help your ride.
A good aftermarket spring and shock would provide a good ride. How low do you want to go? What car?
I have APEXi Worldsport Dampers/Coilovers and they ride great.

get some progressive rate springs and a good set of shocks (adjustable) it will be noticably lower yet ride will be great. i have some Progress Sport Springs on stocks shocks and ride is pretty "bouncy" but i have yet to get some KYB AGX shocks. you should get some Progress springs, progressive spring rate and very very high quality springs

Get soft sport springs and struts. You won't be able to go lower than 1.5in.

Re: HOW can i get a good ride with a lowered car??????? (pennies_hatchie)
There is no reason why a lowered car can not be made to ride reasonably, however there are several items that have to be addressed!!!!
If you lower it too much, you will run into problems with the amount of suspension travel that you have. To get it back, you should think about shorter shocks. Some of the Koni shocks are shorter (as an example). A suspension that bottoms out is just plain wrong!!!
You should keep a reasonable spring rate. Some companies run a very high rate to prevent the suspension from bottoming out.
A higher spring rate will require a better shock to handle the different oscilation that is a function of the spring.
It's all a matter of thinking of the whole package.

I don't think that's the answer bro, no matter how short you make ur stock shocks, they still aren't manufactured to handle the increase spring rates you will get with aftermarket springs. Just save up and get some decent dampers, the most popular for Accords seem to be KYB AGX, mine will be here tomorrow, then I can get rid of the stocks im on right now and they should work nicely w/my Neuspeed sport springs, I can't wait.

I'd recommend Ground Controls with Tokico Illuminas. That's the setup I'm riding with and while it'll still bottom on some ramps and stuff if you try to blitz'em at 50 mph most of the time you can't even tell the difference between it and a stock car. If you lower you're car it is going to be rougher over bumps, but with some good springs and shocks it doesn't have to bone jarring rough.

I have skunk2 coilovers with tokico ilumina (5 way adjustable.) The skunk2 springs are the integra spring rates (500 in front, 400 in rear.) This set up is on my 93 civic w/ b18c. It rides way too rough. I wouldn't recommend high spring rates at all.

IMO the apexi WS (world sport) coilovers are one of the best setups for a daily driver, I have a set on my EK and have a few friends running them on there ITR's. They handle very well, not super stiff like most cheaper coilovers, but the ride is amazing for a lowered car. The only down side is that they cost around $900-1000 and are not adjustable... but totally worth it if you drive the car everyday and live in an area where roads suck....

Yeah, I have Teins right now and I hate the ride, much to rough for me on the street and it's only 7kf, 5kr. I've got kyb agxs on the way to put on with my Ground Controls and hopefully the ride will be nice with them, since they'er like 325 and 250. Also, Ground control sells upper mounts that add 3/4" of travel to your shocks, made FOR ride quality, might want to check on them, $75 perside but they're backordered, mine should ship out this week.

Jomo;
In regards to your idea of taking the stock shocks and "cutting and re-threading" them, this will not solve the problem and isn't really all that "do-able"!
In looking for a shorter shock, what you need is a shock that has a shorter "body". It's the top of the body that hits when a car (normally) bottoms out it's suspension.
Plus, the shock rod is highly tempered! It would be possible to cut, but re-threading would be near impossible. My guess is that when shocks are made, the threads are cur prior to tempering of the rod.

Re: HOW can i get a good ride with a lowered car???????
Ive got Apex world sports and they ride as close to stock as possible at the same time the car feels very tight and handle incredable. just remember you get what you pay for and they arent cheap. also the more coils the springs have the nicer the ride you will have
