Honda City EX 1998-2003 D13B4 Engine have knock sensor?
I was thinking about doing a crazy mini-me combo swap with my future potential car. I'm either going to get a 1996/1997 Civic or a 1994/1995 Civic, two different animals each with their own benefits. For my most ideal setup, I want a 3 Stage Vtec D15Z7 head and to combine it with a D13B4 engine and put it into the model year Civics that were listed above. I would also combine this with a CX/VX transmission or an HX if I decide the CX/VX transmission is too tall.
I think this would produce the ultimate setup while still allowing me to pass smog in california. The problem for california and OBD-II 1996+ Civic is that they hook up to the OBD-II port, so the idea is to every time I get a smog check I plug in my default ECU for that vehicle. The problem is, I don't know if an ECU from a non Vtec engine would work with the D15Z7 head "temporarily". I'm wondering if just using a D16Y5 ECU would be sufficient for basic drivability with the D15Z7 and doing a smog check.
Amazing, I've said all the above yet I never addressed the title. So with everything in mind, trying to keep it smog legal and whatnot, I want to know if the D13B4 engine has a knock sensor or not. I ask because if it doesn't, then if I use the bottom half from the D13B4 with either a D15Z7 or even D16Y5 head, any ECU that is paired with it is going to throw codes which means I won't pass smog.
