Default GSR issues...no power...rough idle

i got a 01 GSR, mods are...
aem itr cai
blox im
itr intake cam
skunk2 cam gears
aftermarket fuel rail
unorthodox crank pulley
apexi n1
dc jdm 4-1 header (runners dented on bottom )
omnipower test pipe
obd2-obd1 harness w/ chipped p28 UNTUNED

here's the problems i've been experiencing...

about every other time i start the car it won't turn over. takes about 2-3 times and then once it starts the idle is very rough and its under 1K rpm. 800 to be exact, usually. once i give it gas it will die. when this first started happening before i checked the timing and it was retarted 8 degrees. set the cam gears back to 0,0 and it ran fine. that was with a virgin p72. since then i've switched it to the chipped p28. it ran fine for a couple of weeks and then started the rough idle again. cam gears are at TDC and so is the crank pulley.

another problem is the major power loss...
i put the p28 in because i was going to tune it on cromepro and have everything fixed but then i ran into a couple more problems. i started burning oil but not a lot and i was pouring out black smoke on decel and during WOT at vtec engagement/crossover. i'm pretty sure its my piston rings due to running low on oil not checking every week
now when i drive it at WOT it is SLOW and doesn't pull at all. it feels very "choked" but i cannot seem to figure out the problem. compared to before when it first was running on the p72, it pulled pretty decent and there were zero problems. for the mods it has, it should be a decently quick car but lately its been so slow and theres no power whatsoever theres no apparent leaks anywhere and no timing issues. i've only been doing this for a year or so so i have a lot to learn but i have a decent amount of mechanical experience.

i'm pretty sure most of you will say get it tuned but i think it would be a waste to go get it tuned when there could be shot piston rings and some issues i might not even be aware of. i'm just dd it now and i never drive it at WOT. very disappointing for a GSR with huge potential.

any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
thanks

Start by checking compression. While you have the plugs out check them as well. Did you adjust your valve lash after the cam install?

valve lash was done when the cam was installed awhile ago. i haven't checked the plugs recently but i guess that could be part of the problem?

If your licking as much oil as you say they are most likely bad, but you should really do a leak-down and at the very least a compression test, just for starters.

Do a compression test and leak down test. Take notice of the initial reading on the gauge, it will be 50% of the final reading. Low initial reading is an indication of piston ring problem.

changed my spark plugs last night, and i think that was the majority of the problem. got most of the power back and it seems to run a lot smoother. all four had oil on them and all of the electrodes were gone? detonation? the other problem is it needs tuned badly! i'm almost positive my piston rings aren't sealing right either and they're going to be shot soon. rebuild soon on the block
thanks for the help

If you keep driving it untuned you will keep having problems with the car. I think your problems started because it wasn't tuned properly.

Get it tuned and post some dyno sheets while you're at it.
