Fan blowing hot air when it's supposed to be cold?
Hi it was a cold night tonight. I have my radiator fan on permanently. I decided to turn my fan inside the car to the coldest setting but it was still blowing out warmish air. Then while driving the temperature gauge started to climb to about 3/4 then i just turned my fan onto full hot and that bought the temperature back down to normal operating temperature. Then i just drove on and turned the heater off and it wouldn't overheat again.
My car has this random problem of overheating randomly, like once every couple of months just after normal driving. Even after thrashing it, the car doesn't overheat. Don't think its the headgasket . No foamy oil or oil in the coolant. Coolant overflow bottle seems to be a bit higher than usual. Performance seems to be pretty much the same. Replaced the thermostat recently...
Diagnose my problem please.

how old is the radiator? If you are driving hard, the water pump is pushing the coolant harder, so slight obstuctions in the rad tubes might be overcome, but with normal driving, these could become a problem...

Your heater valve might have gotten alittle stuck open, allowing hot coolant into your heater core, thus hot air. I rode around with hot air for awile till I manually shut my heater valve which is located in the engine bay near the firewall. Have someone inside the car switch the a/c temp from cold to hot back to cold again as you watch the valve operate. At least this is how it works on my 92 RS. Could be a different setup on your car.
