F23 rear main seal plate- does that have a gasket? + are h22 sump gask. same as H22?
Hey,
I need to replace my rear main seal on my F23a RA3 odyssey. I understand I have to take off that plate with the gold bolts that the seal is in.
Does anyone know if that plate has a gasket. If so where I can get one from
?
Also, anyone know if h22a or f22 sump gaskets work on f23?

I don't normally pull the plate off when doing a rear main seal. I use a seal puller or screwdriver (carefully!) to pop the old seal out. I reinstall with a piece of PVC pipe that matches the seal diameter.
the plate doesn't normally have a gasket, it is sealed with "Hondabond" grey RTV gasket maker.

Its much safer to pull the plate to replace the seal but you will need to drop the oil pan first.
You will need hondabond on the plate in the gallery that has existing hondabond. Remove the old hondabond and add either hondabond or rtv in its place.
Place the seal in the plate, making sure the seal is flush. If you use an aftermarket seal you need to add grease to the inner lip of the seal so that when the car is first started the seal has a chance to breakin around the crank. If the lip is dry it could leak or lightly tear. If you install a Honda seal it comes pregreased so its not necessary to grease it. Then slide the plate on, torque the bolts then reinstall the oil pan.
