Default exhaust sounds like a beehive when vtec engages? help?

So i got a new exhaust system worked up, sounded mean without the muffler on, but i felt pretty stupid having to drive i like that for 2 days

i got the new muffler on, its a comptech muffler with custom piping, the welding is pretty bad on the piping but my welding guy closed up the holes, but when i hit vtec at 4900(correct?) rpm in my gsr the thing just makes this horrendous buzzing sound.

is this a result of an exhaust leak? or is there a possibility there is something wrong with this muffler?

i put new gaskets on the piping all around and it still sounds the same, its really disappointing

Are you running a cat or resinator?

OP its not an exhaust leak, I had the same problem when I ran 2.5'' piping to a magnaflow muffler with no cat and no resinator.

Order a resinator and it should make it sound alot alot better.

I just got mine done and I have the same problem.
Mine is 2.5 w/ no cat or resonator to a vibrant muffler.
It sounds REALLY good but im also getting a vibration up top. It sounds almost like the piping is rubbing against something. I’m almost certain that that is the cause. I’ll have to check it out this weekend.

Im running a greddy evo2 knockoff exhaust, no cat or res. and it sounds just like you say, i garauntee its not the muffler most likely. Im throwin a cat on mine since it sounds and smells like ******* lol

maybe it is the muffler though if you are running a cat/res
