Difference between new and old vtec solenoids, obd0 vs obd1+
Well after changing every gasket on the left hand side of my motor I was baffled as to why it was still leaking down the front of the motor on that side... my motor is a 95 gsr and when i first got the motor i bought a obd0 b16 vtec solenoid to put on it. When i installed it i put on a new gasket and everything so i figured it couldnt of been that leaking. So I replaced cam seal, distributer seal, headgasket (with new block) and slapped on another vtec solenoid gasket.... still leaked!
I read on here that the first gen b16 solenoids are different and u cant use a newer gasket... some people said it was true, some said that it was BS.
IT IS TRUE - I went out and bought a newer vtec solenoid and compared them. The newer vtec solenoid has wider grooves for where the gasket goes, so it fits in nicer. I bolted it up and now no leaks.
I ran with the leaky solenoid for about a year and everything worked fine, vtec engagement... it just leaked from the gasket. So the only difference between the two is the groove where the gasket goes.
