Why can't you just put some higher compression SRP's in it and replace the rod and main bearings while you are in there?

Yes I would. I would also sleeve it. But see theres this small lil problem. Money. Some people have a lot to spend while others dont. I dont happen to have a buch to dump into my car (I wish I did) I've still yet to call steve and see what he says. Ill let everyone know what he says.

Well steve was very honest and upfront. he was under the impression that that JDM motors were all 9.6 compression motor. there was nothing we could really do. he and I discussed it and we came to the conclusion that this was an honest mistake and that he didnt want to screw anybody. As for the overcharge he offered to pay that back. Over all I think Steve is a good guy, just needs to look @ his engines more often.

As for my engine heres what I have

JDM B20B
2 layer hedgas
p75 head n IM
non P75 cams
no knock sensor.

I think I have the 9.2 compression motor.

I think I have the 9.2 compression one cause it has some of the Zs parts but has some of the USDMS B parts.

List all your parts like I did on mine above. Manifold style, cams, blockcode, year, etc.

all the blocks say p3f, there are two castings from what ive noticed
there is the "95 spec" casting
then the "98 spec" casting

the 95-97 are all stamped 95

the 98 up are all stamped 98

what i want to know is what the hell is a p8r head..!!!!!

i think p8r will explain alot

Sooo.. getting back to the point (I think) of this thread, I would really like to understand the differences.

I have a '98 B20B that came with automatic tranny.

The pistons say "P3F"
The block says B20B4
I don't know about the cams, I didn't look
It has a 3-pcs head gasket.
No knock sensor

I'd REALLY like to know what my compression is now- I have a '00 GSR head with a 1.97 mm head gasket. I calculate 9.0:1, but I think I'm wrong. Additionally...

Bore = 8.4 mm
Stroke = 8.9 mm
Head cc = ? (for gsr and CRV)
Piston dish = ? for P3F

Thanks... Sean

My friend works for them, I'll talk to him about it.

I have a USDM B20b in my car and I'll check this stuff out (but i have 96' ls 5speed cams. would that matter? ) and if i switched to a 2 layer head gasket will my compression go up to 9.2 ya think?

I just talked to my friend about this. he said he saw a site once about it. He said it was a motor in a Civic (not crv) that this motor came from. It was like european or austiran or something. it had 9.2:1 compression with the 2-layer head gasket and LS TB/IM/cams or something like that. Think we are going in the right track here??

So you have a 99-00 Australian CRV motor and it is stamp'd b20b8?
Thats pretty sick....

ok mines a 97 USDM b20b off of a auto tranny equiped crv

block is stamped b20b4
head is stamped p75
block has p3f stamped on it in several areas
cams say p75
block had a 3 layer head gasket
intake manifold was the tall "giraffe" style with the smaller TB
engine is for sure 8.8 cr

at the time i dynoed i was running a b&m fuel pressure reg and a skunk2 intake manifold with my LS TB, fuel rail, injectors, and no other engine mods

from seeing dynos off of Hybrid and here i was expecting 130 or so hp and 120 tq

however my engine was rated at 126 at the fw and i dynoed at 112hp and 106 tq

Hardly what i was expecting... that 8.8 cr REALLY blows... to anyone that isnt sure as to what engine you have i would make damn sure cause i would be really pissed if i though i had the higher cr and didnt after all...

the funny thing is that the car still feels stronger than the b18b i had in there before hehe it just dies up top... i make peak TQ by 3000 rpm and its flat all the way up to 5700.

oh and by the way going to a 2 layer gasket will only raise the cr to 8.9. even a 1 layer wouldnt get it to 9.2 so i dont know what the difference is with the 8.8 and 9.2 cr b20b

your hp looks to be on par for the low cr engine, but not considering that you have the skunk2 on there. your torque blows. somthing is wrong with your engine or your dyno. Do you do a compression test? Also, do you at least have an free flow exhaust on there?

i dont know how much power you think a skunk2 makes on a non vtec engine especially when this is a non vtec engine with 8.8 cr. im almost within 10 percent of the FW rating of the engine at the wheels.... that to me sounds on par... my only mods at the time were the fuel pressure reg and the intake manifold. no intake, in fact the filter was prolly dirty, and stock headers and stock exhaust.

how much power do you think i should be making with only an intake manifold?

Stock exh. is choking things up man. You got good flow in, but w/ out headers/exh its not gonna show a massive improvement cause flow out blows.

well, using the 15% rule, your right on par, if not a little over the stock 126hp rating. But the stock high rise intake manifold coupled with the puny 56mm tb is designed to improve low/mid power at the expense of high. But it still is supposed to put down 133lbs, and your at 122 equivalent tq. Your engine is making low tork, but the skunk2 is extending the curve just enough to get the stock hp numbers. 5700 rpms, and still making tork on that engine, is impressive.

Hopefully its just your restrictive exhaust, old cat or your dirty filter plugging things up, but a compression test is an easier way to narrow things down. Also, if it feels stronger than your b18 did, with possibly less peak power, to almighty broad torque curve.

yeah well this was just a baseline run for the motor.. ive been debating what step to do next for some time. i was horribly dissapointed with my #'s but the car is still fun to drive (maybe cause i put in a type r tranny with the motor)so im happy for now.

i now have a 3" cai and hopefully soon ill be workin on a R head or b16 with r internals and some phk pisons.

the engine also feels strong, runs smooth and doesnt seem to burn much if any oil so thats why i havent done the cr check....

oh yeah theres another guy that i dynoed with that had a b20b that put down the same numbers...

the main point of this post was to let people know that they dont want the 8.8 cr model btw i was in no way braggin about my d-series like performance

Thats why when I bought my motor, I did not care what the compression was cause I anticipated putting higher compression pistons in it anyways. That would be my advice to somebody wanting a b20 even if they were planning on staying nonvtec.
